Root Canal Treatment (endodontics)

Pourquoi faut-il parfois faire un traitement de canal ?
voire une infection, en raison de divers facteurs

Why is root canal treatment sometimes necessary?

A tooth contains living tissue called dental pulp, located in a space in the center of the tooth, as well as along the root canals that run through the roots. The pulp contains nerves and blood vessels. It can become inflamed or even infected due to various factors:

  • Deep, untreated decay;
  • A tooth fracture or impact that has caused trauma to the pulp;
  • A defective restoration under which bacteria have infiltrated;
  • A previous infection that has not healed properly.

When the pulp is affected, sharp pains often occur, sometimes accompanied by sensitivity to hot or cold, swelling of the gums, or a throbbing sensation in the tooth. However, there may be no symptoms, which makes routine checkups all the more important for detecting the problem in time.

The treatment process

Root canal treatment involves removing the infected pulp, disinfecting the canals, and filling them. The goal is to stop the infection, relieve pain, and preserve the natural tooth in the mouth.

Here are the main steps:

  1. Local anesthesia: to ensure a comfortable, pain-free procedure.
  2. Opening the tooth: to access the root canals.
  3. Cleaning and disinfection: we remove the infected tissue and thoroughly clean the canals.
  4. Filling: the canals are sealed with gutta-percha, a rubber-like material, and the tooth is then restored with a filling.
  5. Final restoration: a crown is often recommended to effectively protect the treated tooth.

Une solution qui préserve votre sourire

A solution that preserves your smile

Root canal treatment avoids extraction and preserves tooth alignment, chewing function, and the aesthetics of your smile. It is a common, safe, and effective procedure. When performed properly and accompanied by adequate restoration, this treatment can extend the life of your tooth for many years.

After the procedure, temporary sensitivity is common, especially when chewing. You will be given personalized recommendations to facilitate healing.

Key treatment to avoid complications

Ignoring a pulp infection can lead to the formation of a dental abscess or even more serious infectious complications. Root canal treatment is therefore a key procedure in preventing major complications and maintaining a functional mouth. Don't wait for the pain to get worse: the earlier the procedure is performed, the better the chances of saving the tooth.
