Treating damaged teeth to preserve their long-term health
Tooth decay is one of the most common problems in both children and adults. Fortunately, when detected early, it can be treated simply and effectively with a filling. At Dentown Dental Center, we use modern restoration techniques and durable materials to repair your teeth while maintaining their natural appearance.
Cavity treatment (fillings)

What is tooth decay?
Tooth decay forms when bacteria in the mouth gradually attack the enamel and then the dentin underneath.
This process is promoted by the accumulation of plaque and tartar, often linked to poor oral hygiene, frequent consumption of sugary foods, or decreased saliva flow (dry mouth).
At first, a cavity may go unnoticed. As it progresses, it can lead to:
- Sensitivity to hot, cold, or sugar
- Localized or diffuse pain
- Persistent bad breath
- The appearance of a small visible hole in the tooth
The longer you wait, the more the decay spreads, potentially reaching the dental pulp, which can lead to infection and require root canal treatment.
What does the treatment involve?
The treatment of tooth decay involves removing the damaged portion of the tooth and then restoring it with a filling material. Here are the usual steps involved in a filling:
- Local anesthesia to ensure your comfort;
- Cleaning of the cavity using precise instruments to remove decayed tissue;
- Filling the cavity with an aesthetic filling material, often tooth-colored composite resin;
- Shaping and polishing to restore the tooth's shape and function.
This treatment is performed in a single appointment, and you can eat normally shortly after, once the anesthesia has worn off.

Durable and aesthetic materials
Depending on the situation, different materials can be used to restore a damaged tooth, including composite resin or amalgam.
Composite resin matches the natural color of the teeth and allows for a discreet and aesthetic restoration, while amalgam remains a reliable and resistant option, particularly suitable for posterior teeth subject to high pressure.
A personalized approach
Every situation is different. That's why, after examining your teeth, we will clearly explain the possible restoration options based on the size of the cavity, its location, and your aesthetic preferences.
In some cases, if the cavity is very extensive, a root canal or a more extensive restoration such as a crown may be recommended. You will receive a detailed estimate before any work is done.
