Key visits for healthy dental development

Dental checkups for children are much more than just routine exams. They involve regular monitoring tailored to each child's age, specific needs, and growth rate. From the moment the first teeth appear, appointments help establish healthy habits, quickly detect problems, and build a relationship of trust between the child, parents, and dental team.

At Dentown Dental Center, we believe that a good start in oral health can have a positive impact for a lifetime. Our appointments are designed to be simple, positive, and rewarding, in a reassuring and welcoming environment.

Dental Checkups for Children

À quel âge faut-il commencer les visites chez le dentiste ?

At what age should children start visiting the dentist?

The Canadian Dental Association recommends a first dental visit around one year of age, or within six months after the first tooth erupts. This early appointment is mainly meant to help your child become familiar with the clinic, answer parents’ questions, and provide personalized guidance.

After that, regular check-ups every 6 to 12 months help monitor the development of baby teeth and permanent teeth, and allow for preventive care when needed.

What is included in a dental check-up for children

During these appointments, our team takes the time to perform a complete examination, adapting to the child's age and level of cooperation. Care may include:

  • Examination of the mouth, teeth, and gums to detect early signs of decay or other abnormalities.
  • Checking jaw development and occlusion to detect misalignments or growth problems.
  • Age-appropriate hygiene advice to help children (and their parents) adopt an effective daily routine.
  • Applying fluoride to strengthen tooth enamel and prevent decay.
  • Taking X-rays to see decay between teeth and observe structures invisible to the eye, such as roots and jaws.

Children are encouraged to ask questions and actively participate in their examination. This playful approach helps turn the visit into a positive experience.

Un rôle clé pour les parents

A key role for parents

Parents play a central role in their children's dental health. Our appointments are also an opportunity to discuss several topics with them:

  • Eating habits (snacks, sugary drinks, bottles, etc.);
  • Weaning off pacifiers or thumb sucking;
  • Learning how to brush and floss;
  • Etc.

We take the time to answer all your questions, without judgment. Each family receives practical advice tailored to their situation.

A calm, pressure-free atmosphere

We know that some children may be fearful of going to the dentist. That's why our team takes a gentle approach. We respect the child's pace, adapt our explanations to their age, and prioritize kindness at every step.

A young child's first visit to the dentist lays a solid foundation for future visits. The goal is to create a pleasant experience that makes them want to come back and take care of their smile.

Une ambiance calme, sans pression

A gentle and compassionate approach

We understand that dental appointments can cause anxiety for some people. That’s why we take the time to listen, explain every step of your care, and help you feel at ease. Our goal is for every visit to be positive, clear, and stress-free.
